Hotel

The Sheraton Station Square

Our home away from home for the Dunnett Confluence of Pittsburgh will be the Sheraton at Station Square. This hotel is ideally situated next to the Monongahela River with excellent views of downtown Pittsburgh.  The lobby is designed for small or large groups to relax and enjoy each other's company, and we expect to be doing a lot of that as we chat, debate and catch up.  Guests also have access to the heated swimming pool and hot tub. There is also a fully equipped fitness center for those so inclined.
All rooms at the Sheraton feature complimentary wireless high-speed internet access, a 32-inch HD flat-screen TV, and a SweetSleeper bed.  We hope you will get a good night's sleep each night, assuming you actually go to bed and don't stay up talking all night with old and new friends. All rooms are non-smoking and feature two double beds or one king bed. Handicap accessible rooms with queen beds are also available.
There are three types of rooms included in the negotiated rates.  The standard rooms will be $159 per night plus tax.   Rooms with guaranteed river views will be $189 per night plus tax.   Those of us who choose to stay in the club level rooms have a rate of $189 per night plus tax.  The club level rooms have an exclusive lounge to use 24/7. This lounge features complimentary continental breakfast with eggs, a variety of beverages and snacks throughout the day, with finger foods and hors d'oeuvre on offer in the evenings.  We envision discussing Dunnett to our hearts' content late into the night.   In addition to the standard nights (October 11th to 13th), shoulder nights are also available at the negotiated rates, depending on availability.
The hotel has one restaurant and two bars on property (dozens more are within walking distance).  A hot buffet breakfast is available for $18.
The hotel is situated in Station Square, which is a restored, mixed use, historical development created from the old Pittsburgh and Lake Erie railroad buildings. Just a few steps from the front door are a variety of restaurants and shops.  Nearby you'll find the Monongahela Incline, a charming old-fashioned funicular ride up to Mount Washington to see the gorgeous city skyline.   Pittsburgh's other funicular (the Duquesne Incline), which is just up the road, has an equally amazing view.  Both inclines can be used to access the restaurants on top of Mount Washington for good food with unique vistas.
In addition to the local attractions, the Sheraton provides a complimentary shuttle service to locations within a three mile area. This includes the downtown business area, the North Side, South Side as well as Mt. Washington, but not Oakland. Within walking distance is the T station. The T, or Trolley, is the nickname for Pittsburgh's public transport system which links the South Side to the North Side and Downtown.  For those who like longer walks, there are paths along the river and across the bridges that access many miles of trails.
The complimentary shuttle does *not* go to the airport, but it does go to the train station. We will have a separate post on the best ways to get to and from the airport and train station.  There are several parking options in Station Square.  Valet parking is $28/day, Self-Park with in/out privileges is $20/day and there are two lots, one $10 and the other $7/day, a short distance away.  Keep in mind that these less expensive options are often filled by commuters early in the day.
If there is a downside to the Sheraton, it would be that sometimes you can hear freight trains passing during the night, especially on the lower floors. If you are sensitive to noise, please make a note when you make your reservation that you would prefer an upper floor.
You are responsible for your own reservations.  Reservations should be made via the special website (https://www.starwoodmeeting. com/Book/dunnett) set up specifically for the Confluence.  Please use this website to make a reservation so that a) you receive the discounted rates and b) the Confluence will be credited with the rooms. This latter is essential for making our pick up numbers (the minimum number of rooms we are contracted to fill) and keeping costs low.
